Floating in cosmic space, in a
direction (relative to a viewer from earth) somewhere near the southern horn of
the constellation of Taurus (and incidentally not too far from Cancer), Messier
1, or M1, (also known as the Crab Nebula) is said to be the remnant of a
thousand-year-old supernova explosion.
A supernova is one highly
explosive way for stars that can no longer support their own mass to end their
journey, turning them into mesmerizing bright gas formations, such as the Crab
Nebula.
Thus the universe goes on,
forming and erasing galaxies, stars and planets with whatever quirky lifeforms
they may carry.
The dance of creation at such
a cosmic scale is both highly devastating and fascinating.
Isn't it phenomenal that, when
put in perspective, we, homosapien sapien, (existing on a sort of subatomic
speck that is spinning along the outer rim of a beautiful whirling galaxy, set
in an infinitely vast soup of galaxies and other unknown things), try to
believe that we are the bee's knees, the pinnacle and center of it all?
Talk about an inflated sense
of 'ego'.
Of course not everyone feels
that way, all the time.
Of course life makes sure to
show most of us, individually, our place; especially when ignorance and
inflated senses of 'ego' are holding the reins of global political and
economical power.
Of course, a lot of us have
been beat to submission, to chronic apathy, and emotionally pacifying addictive
consumerism, while living with the 'fear of losing it all' breathing on the
backs of our necks.
And of course lots of us are
just trying to get by, burying our senses and minds under layers and layers of
coping mechanisms, and definitely unsure of where we're heading.
Now how consequential is it
all when we meet a nebula in space?
Reminder to self: Alive, live.
Live fully. Death is coming no matter what. If good fortune is smiling upon
you, if you're not caught in the madness of war, or choked by real poverty, or
broken by the sadistic violence of others, then rejoice, celebrate.
Follow your dreams to your
demise. Go with a celebratory bang.
Speak your truth. Be your
truth. Don't hold back.
You are spirit. You are
conscious spirit experiencing life as you.
Love,
love, love.
We
are One.
